Mrs. Almeta Key, age 92, of Robbins, passed away Tuesday evening, April 7, 2020, at Peak Resources Nursing Home in Carthage, NC, due to declining health.

She was born December 25, 1927, in Montgomery County, a daughter of the late Reverend Coy S. and Mary Morris Saunders.

Almeta was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Paul Key; two brothers, Belton Saunders and Matthew Saunders; and two sisters, Erdena Farah and Doris Saunders.

She was a member of First Wesleyan Church of Robbins, and a homemaker.  She enjoyed arts, crafts and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Almeta is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Paul Harold Key (Ada) of Burgaw, NC, Larry Key of Highfalls; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Carolyn Lemonds (E. L.) of Seagrove, Debbie Ritter (Mack) of Robbins, Paula Key of Raeford; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and one brother, Morris Saunders (Lois) of Hartford, NC and one sister, Evangeline Stevenson of Hertford, NC. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.

Private Graveside service will be held at the Tabernacle United Methodist Church Cemetery in Robbins, NC, with Reverend Cameron Dockery and Reverend Barry Miller officiating. 

Almeta will lie in state from 3 pm to 5 pm on Friday, April 10, 2020 and from 8 am to 11 am on Saturday, April 11, 2020 at Kennedy Funeral Home in Robbins.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the Staff of Peak Resources of Carthage, NC for all their hard work and caring services during the last five months.

  1. Will miss Aunt Meta so much! She was so devoted to Uncle Paul and her family and church. Thoughts and prayers are going out to those who loved her so dearly. We would be there if I could.
