Atha Arant Gibson, age 95 of St. Joseph of the Pines in Southern Pines died Saturday (August 31, 2013).
Entombment will be held 2:00 P.M Wednesday at Sharon Memorial Park mausoleum.
Born in Pageland, SC she was a daughter of the late Charles W. and Maude Arant.
A loving wife and mother of five she was a homemaker and a mother who sacrificed much to give her children an education and spiritual upbringing. She has strict rules to follow and her children respected her judgment even if they may have disagreed.
Atha lived in Southern Pines for many years and was a former member of Southern Pines United Methodist Church and later attended Pinehurst United Methodist Church. For the last several years she lived at St. Joseph of the Pines and enjoyed her time there. The family will be forever grateful for the love and attention the staff extended to her as well as to her family.
She was preceded in death by: her husband Walter Robert Gibson; a daughter Carolyn Hicks of Whispering Pines, NC; a son Stanley Gibson of Ft. Worth,TX.
She is survived by her beautiful children; Linda Rogers of Myrtle Beach, SC, Larry Gibson of Murrells Inlet, SC and Charles Gibson of Jacksonville, FL; her grandchildren Timothy Gibson, Jeff Gibson, Cindy Gibson, Charles Thomas Rogers, Jr., Jessica Diane Rogers, Roxanne Rogers and Megan Gibson; great granddaughter Alexandria Liles Rogers.
