Barbara Hussey Ashworth, 68, best known as Granny, peacefully gained her angel wings at her home with her husband, Kester Ashworth, by her side late Sunday night, May 26, 2019. She was the 5th child, 1st girl born of 11 children to Carl Franklin Hussey and Alice Sheffield Hussey in Robbins, NC.  

She was adored and loved by Kester Ashworth, her husband of 34 years, and enjoyed the scenic country life as a loggers wife in Putnam, NC surrounded by beloved dogs. 
She loved her family with children, Joe Bob Fisher and Pam Fisher with Carlos, granddaughter, same as a daughter, Machelle Fisher Bishop, married to David Bishop, with great grandchildren Keria Faith Brock and Nik Bishop. She had the privilege of being a step-mom to Kevin Ashworth with Tina, Tina Ashworth Scott, with husband Bradley Scott, Michael Ashworth, with wife Brenda Lamonds Ashworth and David Ashworth, with wife Stacy Smith Ashworth. She loved children and had the pleasure of being Granny to Jerimiah Ashworth, Wyatt Ashworth, the late Dustin Simmons,  Brianna Scott, Conner Scott, Makaylan Scott, Savannah Scott, Lane Ashworth and Lorna Ashworth. 

Granny was fun loving with a sense of humor with great laughter, love and fun memories with her family of siblings, nieces and nephews, including the late Worthy Hussey, wife Malinda of Lexington with Matthew and Michael, Frank Hussey, wife Livera, the late James Hussey, wife Eva of Asheboro with Jamey, Ernie Hussey of Asheboro/Havelock with EJ, Jeannie and Shannon, David Hussey of Robbins with Lynn, Rhonda and Lora, Barney Hussey, with Vicki Strider of Robbins with Keith, Stacey and Brooke, Brenda McMillan, with husband Jack McMillan of Whispering Pines with Jennifer,Holly, Colby & Dustin; Martha Brewer of Robbins with Tricia and Angie;; Joel Hussey of Robbins with Jeremy, Rebekkah and Joel Patrick and Minnie Higgins, with husband Andy of Fountain Valley, CA/High Point, NC with Patrick.
 
Barbara never knew a stranger, loved children and enjoyed friends from her work at Ithaca, Martha’s Daycare and Ashworth Logging. She leaves a legacy of love, laughter and fun memories for those who celebrate her life. 

The service will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019 at Putnam Friends Church, 136 Putnam Church Road, Carthage, NC with a viewing at 4 pm and the funeral services at 5 pm.  Family and friends are gathering at the home of Kester and Barbara Ashworth at 249 Hunters Ridge Lane, Carthage, NC 28327 and after the service and graveside burial on 5/31 in the fellowship hall at Putnam Friends Church.

  5. I had the pleasure of working with Barbara at Ithaca , we had fun times there I loved talking to her , hadn’t saw her in long time . I’m sorry to hear the news of her passing , Heaven is sweeter with her there . I know she will be greatly missed .
