Bert John Fricke, Sgt. 1st Class retired, age 89, died Monday (1/4/2010) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday (January 7, 2010) at Cool Springs United Methodist Church with the Rev. William Cashion officiating. The body will lie in state for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow with full military honors in the church cemetery.
A native of Slidell, Louisiana, he was a retired US Army veteran and recipient of the Purple Heart, serving in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. Following his military career he worked with NASA and Boeing where he help build the rocket boosters for Apollo 11. He later worked for Sanford Steel & Pipe and for Moore County Solid Waste in Carthage.
He is survived by: his wife, Louise Oldham Fricke; two daughters, Ruth Williams and husband, Edwin of Robbins, NC and Cathy Graham and husband, Daniel of Greensboro; grandchildren Maegen and Lucas Williams; nieces Ethel Friend and Anna Fricke.
The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
