Betty Jean Maness
April 1, 1937 ~ January 28, 2024
On Sunday evening, January 28, 2024, Betty Jean Maness, 86, of Seagrove, went to be with the Lord peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.
Betty was a godly woman who loved the Lord and her family and set an example for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that will lead them all their lives.
Betty was born in Seagrove, North Carolina, on April 1, 1937 to the late Benjamin and Flossie Williamson McNeill.
Betty met the love of her life, Bobby, when their respective high schools took a senior bus trip to Washington, DC. At the first rest stop Bobby asked if she would like something to drink, to which she replied, “I’ll take a Dr Pepper.” And the rest, as they say, is history.
They were married on October 12, 1957. In 2023 they celebrated 66 years of happiness together.
Betty was the proud mother of five children. Once she became a mother, that became her job and her highest calling. And she did it well in the manner of a Proverbs 31 woman rising early to prepare for the day, and to make sure her family had what they needed. While not perfect, there was no doubt in the minds of her children that they were dearly loved and treasured.
Her greatest love was her family. She was more than happy to be the central figure in the lives of her children. Anyone who knew them knew that she was a star in their eyes, and that’s all that ever mattered to her.
Possessing a true servant’s heart, Betty faithfully cared for family and friends through delicious cooking/baking from scratch-including cake decorating, and gardening. A woman of faith and the heart of the Maness family, Betty loved the Lord with all her heart and she loved God’s word.
The family would like to extend a special appreciation to DeeDee Hill, Carrie Caddell, Ava Herrington and Johnnie Gaines for lovingly taking care of their mother for the past two years.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 1:30-2:30 pm at Victory Baptist Church in Seagrove followed by a service to celebrate her life at 3:00 pm in the sanctuary.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by 10 siblings.
Betty is survived by her husband of 66 years, Bobby; children: Terry Maness (Lori), Randy Maness (Martha), Pamela Wilkie (Jim), Barron Maness, Derwin Maness (Tracy); grandchildren: Philip Maness (Kasey), Brandon Maness, Ashley Allred (Matt), Brad Maness (Heather), Chad Maness, Jordan Maness, Ben Maness; great grandchildren: Brianna, Caden, Andy; sister: Myrtle Brewer, brother: Roy McNeill; many nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Victory Baptist Church or Gentiva Hospice.

You will see her again in Heaven one sweet day. May God richly bless all of Betty’s Family and Friends. Love in Christ….Pam and all of your Rockwell Methodist Church Family & Friends … and our Chancel Choir who love Randy & Martha so !
I can’t even come close to matching what Betty’s family has stated about her, but that is exactly what I saw in Betty for her family. It was a great Godly example of what a family home and mother should be. She cooked for me once and I never forgot it. The family has had a special place in my heart for over 40 years. Bobby and Betty’s love for the Lord was a inspiration to follow; working with Bobby all the years at Energizer we would share conversations about the Lord and family a lot because we cared for one another. Betty will be missed greatly, but she left behind so many great memories– loving Jesus number one, therefore laid up for her I am sure is a crown of righteousness and an eternal home with Jesus–what a promise we have from our Lord Jesus! Much love to Bobby and family, you are blessed to have Betty in your life for 86 years, and to have the promise you will see her again in Heaven. We love you, Sandy & Mary Payne Oh, and Betty made the best pickles we EVER ate 🙂
My deepest condolences to this beautiful family! I only knew Mrs. Maness for a short while, but I will forever remember her sweet voice and smile. Her love and light lives on in each of you and I pray that each of you may find peace in your heart during this troubling time. You are in my prayers!
Heartfelt condolences to the family and all who loved Betty Jean. Keeping you in prayer.
There are no words that can take away your pain and feeling of loss. Betty was a genuine dear Lady in every sense. She always had a smile, an easy and sincere smile. She had a heart for God and her family. Our families enjoyed so many good times together. Basketball was a subject a lot of the time. Betty was completely devoted to her family. She loved being able to serve you with something delicious desert she had made. Her persimmon pudding could not be beat. We shall miss her; but we know she is with the Lord and we shall reunite one day. May God Strengthen each of you and ease your pain. Amen
