Billy Ray Williams
March 20, 1936 ~ September 13, 2023
Billy Williams, 87 of Robbins went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at his home, surrounded by his family.
Billy is a native of Moore County, born in Eagle Springs on March 20, 1936. He served his country in the United States Army (25th Infantry Division) and National Guard and was Honorably Discharge once his term of service expired. Billy loved to drive a big truck (known as Little Rascal on the CB) and he did for over 60 years to provide for his family. Billy drove for Dewitt Trucking, Millikan, Klopman, and retired from Burlington Industries. Before retiring he received numerous awards for promoting safety on the highways, safe driver, and completing General Motors Training in Tune-up. He felt in his heart that driving a truck was his true calling on earth. With all of his knowledge of working on trucks and driving a truck he is known to be a walking, talking GPS for all the miles he’s traveled over the many years by remembering the countless road names/numbers, landmarks, and always found his way back home to his loved ones. Even at the age of 83 and still driving his log truck he was asked when he was going to retire and just relax and enjoy himself and he responded by saying, “he would retire when they stop making diesel fuel.” His family was his pride and joy. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. The time he spent with his family was most rewarding to him. Billy was also known as Pop Bill to his grandkids. He loved to pick at them and hear their laughing voices. He loved listening to bluegrass music, watching NASCAR racing, Ice Road Truckers, and any show that dealt with 18 wheelers. He was passionate about working on his own vehicles, including his 18-wheeler. Billy was a selfless man and helped anyone in need, even giving his last dollar away. He was the son of the late Claude and Lessie McKenzie Williams and was preceded in death by sisters: Johnsie Johnson (Paul), Mildred Baxter (James), brothers: Earl Williams (Louise), Clyde Williams (Carol); brother in law Gurney Greene.
Billy is survived by his wife Maybelle of 63 years; sons: Craig Williams (Cheryl), Darrell Williams (Dougie), Timmy Williams (Vivian); and daughter Lisa Williams, grandchildren: MacKenzie, Dale, Olivia, Brannon, Jessica, Hunter, and Landon; great grandchildren; Cameron, Kirsten, Jaxson, Ashlyn, Brooklyn, Oakley, Chance, Alan, Lily, Eric, Easton, Adaline and Kaiden (expected to arrive September 20th); brothers: Wayne Williams, Glen Williams (Janice); sisters: Pearl Shepard (Ronald), Doris Brewer (Wilmer), Helen W. Green; many nieces, nephews and friends.

I worked with Billy at Klopman mills, he was a great person, always comical and laughing. A great Trucker, indeed, and a great friend. RIP (Lil Rascal)
Maybelle, family, brothers and sisters, words cannot describe your loss and pain and hurt that you are going through. You can shed tears because they are gone, or you can smile because they lived. You can close your eyes and pray they will come back, or you can open your eyes and see all that they left you. Billy left us all with many, many, beautiful and wonderful memories. He also left behind a legacy of the importance of working hard and taking care of family. He left behind a legacy of honesty, character, integrity, kindness, compassion, and generosity to others. A legacy that can’t be erased. A legacy not only for who he was, but for what he did. He touched many lives along his journey in a positive way and left footprints on the hearts of those he touched. He gave and left us all so much! As a youngster growing up, I can remember the summers spent with my Aunt Lessie and Uncle Claude and the Williams clan. Billy was and still is one of my favorite role models.
1st Cousin, Freddie McKenzie
