Billy Cleveland Whitaker, 85, of Carthage, died Friday, December 27, 2024 at Atrium Health Hospice House in Kannapolis, North Carolina.
He was born on April 10, 1939, to Leonard and Minnie Whitaker in Scotland County, North Carolina but lived most of his life in Moore County.
Bill married Jean on September 15, 1963 and they had two children, Kevin and Stephanie.
He worked as a truck driver for 55 years. He was an avid Duke and Braves fan. You could always catch him working outdoors, riding his John Deere tractor and listening to classic country or gospel music.
Bill is survived by his children, Kevin Whitaker (Rhonda), and Stephanie Phillips (Dean). Six grandchildren, Ty Whitaker (April), Aimee Whitaker, Kaitlyn Phillips, Meaghan Broome (Matthew), Patrick Phillips (Sarah), and Mary Grace Carpenter (Casey). Six great-grandchildren, Maddie Whitaker, Brianna Brizo-Phillips, Nora Broome, Kiernan Brizo-Phillips, Aiden Broome, and John Max Carpenter. Three siblings Gene Whitaker (Dorris), Ray Whitaker (Doodie), Tina Foster and his girlfriend of many years, Pat Nurnberg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Phillips Whitaker, his parents, two brothers and five sisters.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 from 6-8 p.m. at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home: 402 Saunders St, Carthage, NC 28327.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Glendon Independent Christian Church: 148 Glendon Church Rd, Glendon, NC 27325. Reverend Lacy Frye will be officiating.
