After a brief illness, Bobbie Eugene Owens, 88, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024 at The Greens in Pinehurst.

Born on July 10, 1936, in Hot Coal, WV, he was a son of the late Raymond and Ester Barr Owens. After attending college for a short time, he joined the United States Air Force as an electronic technician for 23 years before retiring as Master Sergeant. After retirement from the Air Force, he joined the Army Civil Service and later retired after 25 years of service. Some of his fondest moments in life were joining the service and accepting Jesus as his personal savior. Bob was a faithful member of Yates Thagard Baptist Church. Bob enjoyed traveling, whether by cruise ship or bus ride, he and his wife Nancy went many places together. 

He was preceded in death by his first wife: Jane and second wife: Judy; brother: Larry Owens. 

Bob is survived by his wife of 14 years: Nancy Myrick Owens; step-children: Kevin Matthews, Vickie Matthews, Bryan Matthews and wife Michele Matthews; step-grandchildren: Brandon Matthews and girlfriend Angela Edwards, Ashlee Matthews and fiancé Bryson Lambert, Mackenzie Matthews Fregia and husband Josh, Jordan Matthews and girlfriend Alayna Speer; step great grandchildren: Morgan and Easton Fregia; special brother and sister: Martin and Carol Dowd, all of whom he loved dearly, and thought of as his own. 

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at 2 pm at Yates Thagard Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Johnson and Pastor Sammy Frye officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 pm at the church and other times at the home. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.
