Bonnie Conner Brown, age 78, of Carthage, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2026, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. 

A native of the Tuckasegee Community of Jackson County, NC, she was one of 13 children born to Claud and Bonnie Swanson Conner. Bonnie worked in quality control at Carthage Fabrics, where she met her husband, Doug Brown. She also worked at Ithaca in Robbins and various other jobs. Bonnie’s family heritage was important to her; growing up poor in the rural mountains of Jackson County was something she believed molded her into the person she became. Her family and her God meant everything to her. She was very strong in her faith and was a longtime member of Middlecross Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son Stephen and ten of her siblings. 

She is survived by two daughters Donna Shortt and husband Darrell of Ft. Pierce, FL, Lynn Kamer of Carthage; sister Eula Mae Kilby of Sugar Creek, NC; brother Billie Conner and wife Donna of Cashiers; grandchildren Douglas Shortt, Nicole Shortt, Luke Kamer and Rylee Kamer; sister in law Linda Brown; brothers in law S.L. Brown and Fred Shuler; several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 25, 2026, at Middlecross Baptist Church with Pastors J.T. Harper and David Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at Cross Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home on Sunday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and other times at the home of Lynn Kamer. 

Memorials may be made to: Middlecross Baptist Church, 440 Lucas Road, West End, NC 27376. 

Services are entrusted to Fry & Prickett Funeral Home.
