Brenda Lee Stutts, 45, of Carthage passed away Friday April 2, 2010 after a year-long battle with Leukemia at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday at Emmanuel Baptist Church conducted by Pastor Eugene Ussery and Pastor John Chavis. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
A native of Moore County, Brenda was born October 30, 1964 and lived life to the fullest until her passing. She was a member of the Carthage Rescue Squad and a graduate of Sandhills Community College. She was a Registered Nurse, secretary, and case manager for FirstHealth of the Carolinas for a combined 15+ years. Brenda was diagnosed on March 17, 2009 with AML and began a heroic fight for her family and grandson. She was preceded in death by her fathers Lewis B. Stutts and Billy Lee Mercer.
Brenda is survived by son, Jason Blackburn and his wife Heather of Carthage; daughter, Whitney Blackburn, of Carthage; her mother Alice Faye Mercer of Carthage; brothers, Tommy Stutts of Carthage, Billy Mercer II and wife Cherri of Carthage; and one sister, Felicia Mercer Phillips and husband Lee of Carthage; four nieces and two nephews. During her battle she was also blessed with her 10 month old grandson, Triton Blackburn.
The family will receive friends at Emmanuel Baptist Church on Monday from 6:00 —8:00 PM and other times at her mother's home on Sunset Dr. in Carthage.

I met Brenda while working for Moore County Emergency Services many years ago. I\’ll always remember Brenda as a bubbly, caring person with a zest for life. Heaven surely is a better place with her presence.
