Bridger Jay Smith (Bjay) departed his earthly existence on Sept. 13, 2010, while rescuing his children from an unexpected strong current at Cherry Grove, SC. He was the son of Gary and Shawna Smith of Carthage. He is survived by his wife, Jessica Juett, the daughter of Joel and Colleen Juett of Whispering Pines. Bjay and Jessica have four children, Asher, 8; Hila, 6,; Gabriel, 3; and Hannah, 2. They are residents of Pinehurst.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Pinehurst and had served with enthusiasm as a Scout Master and in other various positions. He became an Eagle Scout at age 14. Bjay was a devoted husband and a lovingly active father, who played with his kids, while simultaneously teaching them.
He had served a mission for his church in South Dakota and neighboring states from 1992 to 1994. He attended Sandhills Community College, where later he taught science labs. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill along side his wife, Jessica. Bjay was blessed with a deep faith and a unselfish nature. He willingly shared his unique computer talents with many friends and acquaintances.
He is survived by six brothers and sisters and spouses: Troy and Suzette Smith of Raleigh; Tyler Smith of Murrieta, CA; Piper and Tim Patterson, of Murrieta, CA; Brady and Cyndi Smith of Carthage, Donavaughn and Paige Carlisle of Carthage, Decker and Christine Smith of Cary, and a foster brother and spouse, Tien and Yao Van Pham of Salt Lake City, Utah. He will be fondly remembered by 22 nieces and nephews.
Viewings will be Friday, September 17 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm and Saturday, September 18 from 9:00 to 9:45 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 9880 Hwy 15/501, Southern Pines. The Funeral Service will begin at 10:00am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 9880 Hwy 15/501, Southern Pines.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to The Smith Children's Education Fund can be made at any RBC Bank.
