Burke Garvin Williams, 85, of 14075 Highway 24/27, died Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at his home.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Symrna United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Tal Madison and the Rev. Joe Forbes officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.
Mr. Williams was a native of Orange County, N. C., a 1941 graduate of Elise High School. He was a member of the Robbins VFW. He was also a trustee at his church and a member of the administrative board. He was an Army veteran of WWII, where he received the American Theater Service Medal, Eame Service Medal, three Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was formerly employed at Futrell Brothers Lumber Company and also formerly employed at Mansion Homes.
Surviving are: wife of sixty years, Beulah Garner Williams, of the home, son, Christopher G. Williams and wife, Sharon of Iron Station, N. C., daughter, Anna Williams Garner and husband, Don of Robbins, brother, Ralph Williams of Greensboro, N. C., sisters, Robbie Barrett of Cary, N. C. and Ethel Smoak of Greensboro, N. C., and five grandchildren, Adam Garner and wife, Monica, Laura Garner, Christy Love and husband, Tim, Shillie Williams, and Hilary Williams.
Family will receive friends Monday, February 1, 2010 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kennedy Funeral Home in Robbins, and other times at the home.
