C. Fred Underwood

Charles "Fred" Frederick Underwood, 56, of Raleigh, died November 26, 2008 in Raleigh.

A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2008 at Grace Community Church, 6561 Meridien Drive, Raleigh, NC 27616. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 13, 2008 at Cross Hill Cemetery in Carthage, NC.

Fred was born September 1, 1952 in Moore County, NC to Charles B. and Mary Elizabeth Welch. He was a graduate of Appalachian State University where he received his undergraduate degree in business. Fred completed his master's degree in human resources at Webster University. He was employed Progress Energy retiring after many years of service. Fred was a member of Grace Community Church. He served as Boy Scout leader and was a soccer Dad with the CASL Youth Soccer League.

Fred is survived by his son, Mitchell Underwood of Raleigh; daughter, Anna Underwood of Raleigh; his former wife, Effie Underwood; sister, Mary Anne Hurych and her husband, Larry of Winston-Salem; nephew, Paul Hurych of Brookhaven, PA; uncle, James L. Welch of Pinehurst; and aunt, Margaret Jean Robinson and her husband, Bill of Fayetteville.

Memorials may be made to UNC Memorial Hospital; or Grace Community Church.
