A memorial service is planned for 3:00 PM on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at West End United Methodist Church.  The family will receive friends following the service.

Carla was born June 15, 1935 in Lakewood, New Jersey as an only child of Walter and Francis Clayton.  She attended Geneva College, a Reformed Presbyterian College and graduated with a BS degree.  She went on to receive her Masters in Education from Rutgers University in 1960.  She then married Keith Wright on January 28, 1961.  She loved teaching and retired after 35 years from the Lawrence Township Public Schools in New Jersey.

She is survived by her husband Keith of 55 years.  One daughter, Jean L. Wright of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, her husband Russell Quigley and step great grandson Skylar Alexander, grandson Jimmy Gribbin and three grand children, Johanna, Cole and Kyla.

Her church became an integral part of her life.  She and Keith joined The West End United Methodist Church in 1998.  Prior to joining, Carla grew up Presbyterian.  She was an avid collector of coins and stamps, also photos of her many motor home trips and her beloved spaniels.  Together with Keith she visited every continental state at least once, as well as several countries and quite a few island nations.  She enjoyed flower gardening and especially gardenias.  Growing up Carla played basketball, field hockey and semi pro-softball as a catcher.  She enjoyed viewing football, basketball, practically ALL sports.  Her favorite teams were Duke and the Carolina Panthers.  She was an environmentalist at heart, with birds and deer always being able to find a meal at her home in Carthage.

In lieu of flowers please donate to:  West End United Methodist Church Food Bank, PO Box 276, West End, NC  27376 or to Moore Humane Society, 5355 Hwy 22, Carthage, NC  28327.
