Clifford Coolidge "Red" Hurley, age 88, of Carthage, died Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at his home.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday at the Red Branch Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Scott McInnis and the Rev. David Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00 PM.

A native of Montgomery County he was a son of the late Perlie S. and Mary Bean Hurley. He retired from the NC Department of Transportation as a heavy equipment operator and earlier in life worked as a farmer and sawmill operator. He was preceded in death by: three brothers, two sisters and a great-grandson Coy Watkins.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Veder Wall Hurley; daughters Vetres Livengood and husband Eddie of Carthage, Joan Ragsdale and husband David of Carthage, Sandy Marsh and husband Rex of McLeansville, Christy Freeman and husband Kenneth of Carthage; sons Teddy Hurley and wife Terri of Carthage, Jeffery Hurley and wife Barbara of Lexington, SC; brother Joe Hurley and wife Helen of Troy; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
