A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday June 25, 2023 at Browns Chapel Christian Church Robbins, NC, with the Reverend Hubert McLeod  officiating.

CJ was a lifelong resident of Moore County, growing up in the small town of Vass, NC.  Later, he proudly served his country in the US Navy, US Army National Guard and the Armored Cavalry Division.  He worked for over 40+ years in manufacturing for Super Feeds, formerly owned by N.G. Purvis Farms.  He was a dedicated employee who could be counted on to help whenever needed, even years after his retirement.  Although known as a quiet, light hearted man, he had a way of making everyone around him feel welcomed.  He was always upbeat, positive and encouraging to everyone he met.  He had a great sense of humor, giving each of his five children nicknames that he continued using throughout his life.  He was a man who loved working in the yard becoming known for his “green thumb” in gardening and raising flowers.  He demonstrated unconditional love and the value of hard work.  He was very proud to know that his children and grandchildren achieved success through a determination inspired by him.  CJ was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather.  He was the son of the late Challie Hampton Stewart and Bertha Lane Stewart and was preceded in death by brothers; Wade and Ray Stewart.

CJ is survived by his wife of 58 years: Elaine Stewart of Robbins;  children; Wendy Stewart Pruitt (Mark) of Reidsville, NC, Seth Stewart (Christina) of Mocksville, NC, Marshall Stewart (Diane) of Statesville, NC, Martha Stewart Tolksdorf (Axel) of Greensboro, NC, Mark Stewart (Lisa) of Concord, NC and one sister, Ruby Lowrimore of Sanford NC.  He had 11 grandchildren: Collin and Ivy Claire Pruitt, Luke Stewart, Matthew, Jacob, and Benjamin Stewart, Challie, Caroline, and Camilla Tolksdorf, Gezadiah and Serenity McCorkle; many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 24, 2023 between 6:00-8:00  pm, at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, NC.
