Daniel Covington Gatewood, age 93, died Saturday (November 24, 2007) at Pinelake
Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carthage.
Funeral services 2:00 P. M. Tuesday at Emmanuel Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Eugene Ussery and the Rev. Bobby Marsh. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the church cemetery.
A native of Moore County, he was a son of the late William Samuel and Blanche Brady Gatewood. He was a veteran of the U. S. Coast Guard during World War II and was also a Ship's Captain in the Merchant Marine. He later retired as a farmer.
He is survived by his wife Estelle Marsh Gatewood; two daughters Carolyn Frazier of Foxfire, NC and Evelyn Tidy of Siler City; two sons Roger L. Whitaker of Siler city and Larry Whitaker of Carthage; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 6:00 —8:00 P.M. Monday at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home and at other times at the residence 172 Gatewood Rd., Carthage.
