Delaney "D.D." Reid Frye, Sr., age 76 of 552 Oakwood Circle, died Wednesday (May 13, 2009) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Funeral services will be held at Carthage First Baptist Church on Sunday (May 17, 2009) at 3:00 PM with Pastor Sammy Frye officiating. Burial will follow at Cross Hill Cemetery.
A native of Moore County he is the son of the late William Glenn Frye and Mary Ann Maness Frye. He attended Carthage School and Taccoa Falls Bible School in Taccoa, Georgia. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean conflict. He worked for Anchor Motor Freight and was a member of teamsters #557 in Baltimore, MD. He was a life long Baptist and devout Christian, loveable family man, good neighbor and friend to all. Preceding him in death are two sisters; Cora King and Eleanor Stewart and one brother Leland Frye.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Martha Billings Frye; a daughter, Barbara Newbern and husband, William of Jacksonville, Florida; three sons, D. Reid Frye, Jr. of Baltimore, MD, Michael Hamblin and wife, Sandy of Forrest Hills, MD and Edward Hamblin and wife, Wendy of Salisbury, MD; two sisters, Angie Bailey of Chesapeake, VA and Grace Evans and husband, Ernest of Cameron; nine brothers, Wade Frye and wife, Kitty of Richmond, VA, Allen Frye and wife Barbara, of Portsmouth, VA, Edward Frye of Portsmouth, The Rev. Thornton Frye and wife, Shirley of Portsmouth, VA, Tommy Frye and wife, Judy of Columbia, SC, Royce June Frye and wife, Katie of Carthage, The Rev. Eugene Frye and wife, Barbara of Warsaw, Indiana, Gail Frye and wife, Bertha of Carthage and John Frye and wife, Brenda of Vass; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 PM on Saturday (May 16, 2009) at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home.

  1. I was a classmate of Delaney\’s and felt very close to the family. A large, loving family with a wonderful mother. She gave me bulbs and cuttings when I built my home. Sorry I cannot be at the funeral. My sympathy goes to the family.
