Diane Kay (Amiel) Small of Carthage North Carolina, passed away on September 7, 2024. She is survived by her husband, William Lewis; four children – Kimberly, Tracy-Jane, David and Susan; seven grandchildren – Kelly Rae and husband John, Benjamin and wife Morgan, Christoper, Rachael, Heather and husband John, Danyel and husband Justin, and Michael; nine great grandchildren –  Alicia, Alexis and Rory; John Jr., Abby, Carly and Chase; Selena and Michael; and, one great-great grandchild, Thalia.  Diane was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Chester “Chet” H. Small.

After retiring – twice, from The Hartford Simsbury CT and Stop & Shop Vernon CT – she left Vernon, CT, for Equestrian Village, Carthage, North Carolina, arriving in 2012. As members of this cherished, supportive community, Diane and Bill found love and care among a special family of neighbors and friends: Fred, Terry, Karen, Cindy, Bessie and so many others who made her retirement a joy. Diane, “Mimi” to her grandchildren and many friends, never met a stranger. Once she brought you into her circle (a very large circle) you learned of her generosity, down to earth attitude on life’s ups and downs, and a sense of humor that always brought a wink and a smile.  Her creative talents included knitting (for which she won many awards), sewing, quilting, needlework, and beadwork.  The family also extends thanks to the wonderful care she received from the First Health Medical providers; a special expression of gratitude to the compassionate caregivers at Hospice House.

To honor Diane’s memory, please donate to your local animal rescue group or shelter.  Mimi’s love of animals – pet cats (her beloved ‘babies’), the feral cat colony she nurtured, the herd of deer and gaggle of geese who visited her backyard, the birds who visited the many feeders, to the horses stabled in the Village – was well known to all her knew her.  Your support is deeply appreciated.

Fry and Prickett Funeral Home is honored to serve the Small family.
