He was a son of the late Ellis and Louise Huff Maples, and was a golf course builder by trade, and lived in many different areas of the country. Several years of his childhood were spent in Augusta, GA and he was still very found of that area and had many friends there. He attended Georgia Southern University.
He is survived by: brothers and sisters Dan Maples and wife Joyce of Carthage, Sandy M. Wright and husband Bill of Augusta, GA, Peggy Dortch and husband Mike of Anderson, SC, David E. Maples and wife Pamela of Myrtle Beach, Ginny M. Mullins and husband Mike of Sanford; half brother Joe Maples and wife Judy of Wilkesboro; half sisters Ross Haddrick and husband Allan, Bebe Bryant and husband Johnny of Wilmington and several nieces and nephews; life long friends Eddie and Shirlene Newsome of Augusta.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Southern Pines Rotary Club, PO Box 2023, Southern Pines, NC 28388.
