Donald Roy Spencer, age 56 of 541 Stage Road died Wednesday (October 4, 2006) at Duke University Medical Center after a long battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday at Carthage United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Chuck Plowman and the Rev. D.C. Sullivan. Burial will follow in Cross Hill Cemetery.
A native of Moore County he was a son of the late Colin G. Spencer, Jr. and Leah Price Spencer. He was a retired truck driver and was well known across the county for his love of classic cars. For many years he was a very active member of the Carthage Fire Department serving in many positions including Assistant Fire Chief.
He is survived: his wife Elaine Coe Spencer, daughters Christy and husband Kenny Cates, Abby Spencer and Kimberly Spencer all of Carthage; sister Mary Foix and husband Tony of Oregon City, OR; brother Colin G. Spencer, III of Carthage; grandchildren Spencer and Evan Cates.
The family will receive friends at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home Friday from 6:00-8:00 PM and other times at the residence.
