Dorothy “Dot” Moore Garner, 86,  passed away Thursday, August 3, 2017, at Kate P. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston-Salem, surrounded by her family.  

Funeral Service will be 1:00 PM, Monday, August 7, 2017 at Smyrna United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Reverend David Woodhouse, Reverend Edwin Moore, Reverend Farrell Hussey and Reverend June Grant officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.   

Dot was a native of Moore County   She graduated from Westmoore High School.  She was a homemaker and worked many years as a substitute teacher.  Dot loved the Lord, her family and her church.  She served in many areas at Smyrna. She  coordinated the very first Vacation Bible School and was the director for many years. Dot served alongside her husband, Jimmie, as leaders of the Smyrna United Methodist Youth Fellowship for more than 30 years.  Dot loved all children and young people and wanted to share Jesus with each one.  She was also a faithful member of the Smyrna United Methodist Women.  

Granny Dot  loved caring for her home and family; cooking, gardening  and taking trips to the beach and mountains.  Her greatest pleasure came from spending time with her family, especially time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.   She was a  faithful Christian woman, serving as an example for many.  Dot was a daughter of the late Riley and Connie Hussey Moore and was preceded in death by brothers: Gary Moore, John Moore, Doyle Moore, Dempsey Hussey and wife Johnsia; brothers in law: Carson Hussey, J B Brewer.

Dot is survived by husband of 68 years, James “Jimmie”; daughters: Sandy Hussey and husband Farrell; Joan Powers and husband Doug; grandchildren: James Hussey and wife Christina, Matthew Powers and wife Nikki, Jared Hussey and wife Jamie, Melissa Cox and husband Matthew; great grandchildren: Emory, Maddox, Rowan, Jaxon, Jimmy, Macalister; sisters: Darlene  Brewer, Desree “Goodie” Hussey; brothers: Jerry Moore and wife Jackie, Bobby Moore and wife Mary; sisters in law: Geraldine Moore, Laura Moore;  many nieces, nephews, a host of Garner relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Kennedy Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials  may be made to Smyrna United Methodist Church, Dot Garner Memorial Playground Fund, 203 Smyrna Church Rd, Robbins, NC 27325.
