Dorothy Elizabeth Johnson 90, died Thursday, January 1, 2015 at FirstHealth Hospice House, Pinehurst, NC, surrounded by her family.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM, Monday, January 5, 2105 at Penick Village Chapel, Southern Pines, North Carolina. A graveside service will follow at approximately 4:00 PM at Cypress Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 2012 Cypress Church Road, Cameron, NC.
Dorothy was a daughter of the late Elmer and Isabell Matteson and was preceded in death by her husbands, Kenneth T. Kenyon and Raymond Eugene Johnson; son: Kenneth Elmer Kenyon; step-son: Edward Johnson and six siblings.
Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother and devoted Navy wife, living in many places during her husband's career. She loved music and was amazing yodeler. Dorothy loved to read and was a writer as well. At the age of 50, she returned to school and received her Associate Degree. She also was a Certified Nurses Assistant.
She is survived by daughters: Peggy Louise Corbett and husband John, of Monrovia, Maryland, Lorraine York and husband Byron, of Cary, Teresa Dean and husband Prentice, of Springfield, TN, stepdaughter: Helen Apple and husband Lewis, of Lakeview, sister: Myrtle Olson; brother: Walter Matteson, 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
