Dorothy (Dottie) Frost Buxton passed away Sunday June 3, 2012 at Penick Village.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 7th at 2:00 p.m. at Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church with Dr. Grady Perryman officiating. The Family will receive friends at 3:00 p.m. during a reception at Penick Village.
Dottie was born January 6, 1920 in Willard NY and grew up and attended school in Elmira Heights, NY.
She is survived by a sister Madeline Frost Mikoda of West Windsor, NY, two daughters Sue Frost Grigsby of Windsor, CT and Jan Buxton Seawell of Midland, NC, one son James Philip Buxton of St. Petersburg, FL, 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and 9 nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband of more than 47 years, James Eberley (Bucky) Buxton, parents Ursula and Walter Frost and brothers Walter and Leslie Frost.
Dorothy resided in Elmira, NY for many years where she was a champion golfer, a certified Red Cross Life Saving Instructor, a synchonized swimming instructor and an active volunteer for many charitable and civic organizations.
Dottie and Bucky retired in Southern Pines, NC to enjoy the wonderful climate, community and their passion for golf.
They were members of the Southern Pines Country Club and 'Dottie' was a member of the Par Seekers.
Following her husband's passing, she became a resident of Penick Village in Southern Pines NC.
There she became known as 'Grandma Dottie', became the unofficial Penick resident photographer and was loved for her engaging,
sunny disposition and always had a joke to share.
She was a member of Brownson Presbyterian Church where she belonged to the Woman's Circle.
She was also an active member of the local Alzheimer's Support Group, the Art Club of Moore County, and a member of the Moore County Republican Woman's Club.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brownson Presbyterian Church, 303 S. May Street, Southern Pines, NC 28387 and the Penick Village Foundation, 100 East Rhode Island Avenue, Southern Pines, NC 28387.
