Dorothy Ross Maurer, 97, died November 22, 2017 at her home in Southern Pines.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 1, at 10:00 AM, in The Community Congregational Church, 141 N. Bennett Street, Southern Pines, NC.
Born in Longmont, Colorado, raised in Indiana, Pennsylvania, she was the Daughter of Mary Davison Ross and Harry T. Ross. She married her husband of over sixty years, B. Nelson Maurer, in 1948.
A 1942 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Mrs. Maurer taught Home Economics for many years, first in Pennsylvania, then in New Jersey, where she raised her two sons and was active in both community and church groups, volunteering, among other things, to prepare mobile meals.
In 1988, Dorothy and Nelson retired to Pinehurst, where she remained active in the Church and volunteered at Moore Regional Hospital.
Her interests included crafts, cards, playing the piano, and crocheting lap robes for nursing home residents. Also, she baked the best apple pies.
Dorothy’s remains will be buried in her family plot in Indiana, Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Maurer is predeceased by her husband and parents.
She is survived by sons Jeffrey A. Maurer and David Ross Maurer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Congregational Church Southern Pines, NC.
