Mr. Douglas P. 'DOUG' Thomas Sr. age 62 died Sunday January 16th at his residence after a short, but courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his family.
Doug was the owner and operator of Doug's Auto Center in Southern Pines. He was an avid race fan, and until recently owned his own dirt track race car which he ran in the Carolinas.
A Memorial service will be held at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church on Camp Easter Road in Southern Pines January 22nd at 3:00 P. M. with Rev. Gregg Newton, and Dr. Wayne Greene officiating. The family will receive friends immediatley following the service at the church.
Doug was born in Moore county to the late Purvis W. and Ruby Clark Thomas he was preceded in death by four sisters Emma Dean Thomas, Faye T. Inman, Trish T. Rainey, and Betty T. Ryder.
Survivors include: his wife Mary June McCaskill Thomas; two sons John Purvis Thomas Sr. and his wife Jennifer, Douglas Phillip Thomas Jr. and wife Connie all of Carthage; two daughters Cindy Ann Thomas, and Sandra T. Davis both of Carthage; one brother Lonnie Thomas of Southern Pines; two sisters Yvonne T. Council, and Kaye T. McConnell both of Southern Pines and eleven grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be made to a chairity of ones choice.
