Edna Burlene Davis Brown, age 80, of Carthage passed away Wednesday, May 22nd, 2019 at First Health Hospice House in Pinehurst.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Bible Church in Carthage. The services will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. William J. Maness, Jr., Rev. Max Williams, Rev. David Reynolds, and Rev. Richard McKenzie. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

A native of Moore County, Edna was the daughter of the late Howard Franklin Davis and Ruth Irene Hinson Davis. Early in life, Edna worked at Carthage Fabrics. She later fulfilled her dream of opening up her own beauty shop, Edna’s Beauty Shop, which she ran for over 35 years. During these years, she became a friend and favorite beautician to so many in the community. She also was an excellent baker, and baked and decorated many beautiful wedding and birthday cakes. For many years, she opened her home, and filled it with much love, laughter, and good food to many people throughout the community. A highlight of this was a yearly Customer Appreciation day cookout. This was a family day filled with good food, fellowship, and gospel music. Edna enjoyed singing and was a part of the Pathway Quartet. She was also an active member of Trinity Bible Church in Carthage, where she helped in many different ways. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her great grandchildren Lily, Zoe and Max were the apple of her eye, and gave her great joy.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Ellen Martindale; brother in laws Doug Brown, Gerald Brown, Melvin Brown, and Ed Dattilo; sister in laws Beaulah McNeill, Joyce Mabe, and Audrey Benner. She was also preceded in death by a special nephew, Stephen Brown.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years Samuel Luther “S.L.” Brown, Jr., who was the love of her life. She is also survived by her daughter Sharon Simpson and husband Jerry of Cameron; sister Irene Leviner and husband David of Seagrove; nephew Marvin Martindale and wife Julie of Bear Creek; grandchildren Chris Simpson of Cameron (Kim), Holly Cirillo and husband Steve of Seven Lakes West, Scott Simpson of Cameron (Brigitte); great grandchildren Lily, Zoe and Max Cirillo. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins, whom she loved dearly.

The family will receive friends at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. on Friday, and other times at the home of Jerry and Sharon Simpson.
