Edna Sledge Whittle, 99, peacefully passed away, Thursday, November 15, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Skilled Nursing Facility, Southern Pines, NC.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, December 1, 2018 at St. Joseph of the Pines Chapel.
She is survived by her husband of 76 years, R. Lamar Whittle (101), three daughters: Betty Whittle, Barbara Grills, Emily Whittle (wife of John Bowman), grandson Bennett Grills, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was a passionate organic gardener, always a pillar of her church and devoted to her husband and family. She is remembered by her husband in the words of Wordsworth, as “a perfect woman, nobly planned, to warn, to comfort and command; and yet a spirit still, and bright, with something of angelic light.”
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Methodist Church, Red Springs, NC or Page Memorial Methodist Church, Aberdeen, NC.
