E. Robert Burtis, 95, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at St. Joseph Health Care, in Southern Pines.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in Pinelawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Burtis was born in Binghamton, N.Y., to the late Edward and Mabel Montfort Burtis. He was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, and he was employed by General Electric for more than 35 years. He was a member and former elder of Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church. He was active in Rotary and SCORE. Mr. Burtis loved music, tennis and collecting model trains.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Nancy Burtis Higgins, of Syracuse, N.Y.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth C. Burtis; and his son, E. David Burtis.
