Edward Vernon Garner 84, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at FirstHealth Hospice House, Pinehurst, NC.

 

Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Smyrna United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Reverend David Woodhouse and Reverend Edwin Moore officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with Military Honors. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 PM and following the service in the Smyrna Family Life Center.

 

Vernon was a native of Moore County.  He loved the outdoors, working as a farmer and the sawmill business.  He also worked in the textile industry for many years. He served in the United States Army.  Vernon served on the Cemetery Committee for Smyrna United Methodist Church until his death and the Moore County Farm Bureau Board for over 30 years.  Vernon enjoyed hunting, especially quail and deer hunting with dogs.  He was a son on the late Sam and Rona Garner and  was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Garner, sister: Gladys Spivey; brothers: Paul, Garland and Calvin Garner.

 

Vernon is survived by wife of 62 years Betty Brewer Garner; sons: Keith Garner and wife Sarah; Alvin Garner and wife Jenny; Ronnie Garner and wife Jennifer; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren..

 

The body will lie in state at Kennedy Funeral Home on January 25, 2017 beginning at 2 PM.

 

Memorials may be made to Smyrna United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 203 Smyrna Church Road, Robbins, NC 27325 .
