Edwin (Ed) R. Phillips, Sr. of Glendon, died Saturday, June 1, 2019 at his residence.

Funeral service will be 11 AM, Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Glendon Independent Christian Church, with the Reverend Robert Yandle and Reverend L D Pritchard officiating.  Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.

Ed was born on April 15, 1930 in Moore County. He served in the US Marines during the Korean War. He worked many years on the family farm, later raising chickens. He retired from the NC Department of Transportation after many years of service. During his retirement years, he loved to hunt, fish & ride his John Deere mowers keeping his yard in pristine shape.  He was a faithful member of Glendon Independent Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Talmadge Phillips & Myrtle Elkins Phillips, sisters, Margaret Elizabeth Phillips, Doris Jean Phillips Sheppard, brothers, Edward Phillips (twin), James Monroe Phillips, Murl Finison Phillips, Joseph Barrett Phillips and William Donald Phillips.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, son, Eddie and wife Michelle, granddaughter, Ashley Phillips Joyner & husband, Kevin, great-granddaughter, Caroline Faith Joyner & great-grandson, Luke Mason Joyner. Sister -in-Laws, Helen Phillips, Virginia Phillips, Flora Tucker, Sandra Tucker, Brother-in-Law, Roy L. Tucker and many special nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Doctors, Nurses, First Health Hospice Staff and his caregivers for their treatment & tireless help during Ed’s illness. Also, thank you to the many family members, friends & neighbors for your concern & visits.
