Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Saturday at Johnson Grove Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Wendell McGee. The family will receive friends at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home on Friday from 6:00 - 8:00 PM and other times at the home.

Betty was born on January 28, 1928, in Anson County of North Carolina to Edwin Bruce and Anna Maria Efird Shankle.  She graduated from Greensboro College and came to Moore County to begin her first job as a Junior Extension Agent with the NCSU Extension Service.  She married William Jackson Morgan and settled in Vass to make their home, raise their children and enjoy a marriage of 67 years.

Betty worked as a high school Home Economics teacher at Vass-Lakeview and Carthage.  She returned to the Extension Service as the county 4-H Coordinator for several years and then finished her career with Sandhills Community College Continuing Education Program - being among those first teachers before they built their first building.  Her professional career always involved helping children and adults to develop new skills and ways to improve their lives.  Deeply involved in her community and the Vass Presbyterian Church, she was on the first Vass Planning Board and Town Beautification Committee, was a Girl Scout Troop leader, a member of the Woman's Club, Alfred Moore Chapter DAR, and her church Circle.

Betty was a devoted gardener and seamstress, as well as a family genealogist.  She enjoyed poetry (even limericks), reading and her chickens.  She was always a loving support to her children and their children.  When Jack retired in 1988 from banking they had many years to travel, visit family and friends, spend time at their beach house and expand their yard.  She will be greatly missed.

Betty was predeceased by her husband, Jack, on April 11, 2017.  Her brother, George Daniel Shankle, her sister, Anna Maria McGee, her brother-in-law, Joseph Gentry Morgan, and her step-grandson Brian Collins also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her children: Bruce Morgan and wife Cynthia, David Morgan and wife Glenda, Martha McAninch and husband John, and Neil Morgan; grandchildren Laura Roberts and husband Dan, Jessica McAninch, Robert Lassiter and wife Mallory, Justin Lassiter and fiancé Megan, Matthew Jones and wife Marlena, Katie Collins and Shawn Collins; great-grandchildren Jessy Roberts, Nathan Roberts and Madison Lassiter.
