Ernest R. Shepley, age 84 died Sunday (December 27, 2009) at his residence after suffering a stroke one week ago.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday at Priest Hill Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Archie Stevens and the Rev. Don Jordan. Burial will follow with military honors and dove release in the church cemetery.
A native of Moore County he was a son of the late Raymond E. and Blanche Davis Shepley. He was an Army Air Force veteran of WWII and was retired from Robert's Company in Sanford where he worked as a supervisor in the textile industry. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter Carol Denise McNeill. On December 24th (Christmas Eve) he and his wife Lena Seawell Shepley celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
In addition to his wife he is survived by: daughters Carolyn McNeill and husband Larry, Brenda Warf and husband Billy, Betty Jo Russell and husband Phil; son Larry Shepley and wife Denise; sister Elaine Speer; brother Ed Shepley, all of Carthage; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home from 6:00 —8:00 PM Tuesday and other times at the residence.
