Frances L. Maness, age 95, of Whispering Pines and formerly of Glendon died Thursday, June 22, 2023, at the FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.

A native of Moore County, she was the last surviving child born to the late Carl and Amanda Hall Livengood. Frances grew up in the Hillcrest community of Carthage and was a member of Summer Hill Baptist Church, where she was baptized. She graduated from Pinehurst High School in 1945. She married her husband, William H. Maness Jr., after he returned home from his military service in WWII. In the ’50’s, Frances joined Cool Springs Methodist Church and was their oldest living member. Over her years of membership, she helped with Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and was a member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service. She was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many.

In 1995, Frances and William moved to Whispering Pines. She was preceded in death by her husband after 72 years of marriage, and all six of her siblings: brothers; Harold and Clyde Livengood; sisters, Una Frye, Connie Williams, Hazel Williams, and Edith Jernigan.

She is survived by her two children: Ron (Nancy) Maness, Barbara (George) Braddock of Whispering Pines; three grandchildren: Sherri Espinosa and husband Paul of Greensboro, Brian Maness and wife Vicky of Greensboro, Meredith Williams of Pinehurst, and 9 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to give thanks for Frances’ caregivers: Jennifer, Georgia, and Maggie. The family also thanks FirstHealth Hospice for their compassionate care…with special thanks to their angelic nurses. Appreciation goes to the supportive physicians and staff of Pinehurst Medical Clinic.

A visitation will be 3-4 PM, Sunday, June 25, 2023, at Cool Springs Church in Glendon with Pastors William Cashion & Lacy Frye officiating. The service will begin at 4 PM, immediately following the visitation, followed by burial at the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Cool Springs Church, in care of Mr. Harold Matthews, 599 Michael Road, Carthage, NC 28327 or FirstHealth Hospice House, 251A  Campground Road, West End, NC 28376.

  2. Very blessed to have the pleasure of taking care of you Mrs. Maness. You will be truly missed and never forgotten. Thank you for allowing me to get to know you and your wonderful family. Rest in peace Sweetheart .

  3. When visiting with my favorite cousins Barbara Jean and Ronald, Aunt Frances was a warm and welcoming presence. With love and acceptance, her twinkling eyes and inviting smile drew her nieces and nephews into her world and made us feel special. A child senses this safety and affection but cannot express its meaning and importance until later in life. I am grateful that she was part of my life. My condolences and heartfelt sympathy to Barbara and Ron and all family and friends who will surely miss her.

  4. RON & BARBRA, So sorry to hear about your mama’s passing. Praying for GOD to comfort you. Sincere sympathy, Eddie & Vetres Livengood

  5. Ronnie & Barbra Jean,
Sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. Prayers lifted for you both.

  6. Ronald, Bryan, Barbara and families,
We are so sorry that we were unable to be there for your Mama and Grandmother’s memorial service. We have been praying for our LORD to comfort you, and will continue to do so.

    In CHRIST,

  7. Ron and Barbara, Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time in the loss of your mother. May God comfort you and give you peace.
