Pinehurst, N. C. " Frances Shearon Thompson, 96, of The Inn at Quail Haven Village, died on Thursday, February 12, 2009, following an extended illness.
She was born in the Daniels Store Community of Wake County NC of Casandra Adeline Davis and Alexander Hamilton Shearon. A graduate of UNC-G and a Masters in Library Science from UNC-G, a teacher and a school librarian, she married Arthur Leo Thompson, a United Methodist minister, in 1934. They lived and served churches in Roseboro, Faison, Ahoskie, Raleigh, Wilmington, Roxboro, Hamlet, and Southern Pines. She taught school in Zebulon and Ahoskie and was librarian at the Vass-Lakeview School.
She is survived by her children, Leo Thompson and Betty Thompson Blount of Raleigh, NC and Everett Thompson of Bainbridge Island, WA; her granddaughters, Susan Blount Campbell of Alpharetta, GA and Jennifer Ann Thompson of Poulsbo, WA; her grandsons, Matthew Edward Thompson of Kingston, WA, John Arthur Thompson and Duncan Cava Thompson of Bainbridge Island, WA, Nathan Arthur Thompson of Jenkintown PA; her great grandchildren, Meagan Amanda Seidl of Statesboro, GA, Rebecca Caroline Seidl and Ethan Robert Campbell of Atlanta, GA, and Tobias Thompson of Jenkintown, PA; and sister, Avis Shearon McKeithan of Winston-Salem NC.
Her husband of 51 years, Arthur Leo Thompson, her son, Arthur Shearon Thompson, and her grandson, Robert Estes Blount III, preceded her in death.
Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, 2:00pm, at the Southern Pines United Methodist Church, 175 Midland Road, Southern Pines, NC 28387-3311, with Reverend Thomas Sweeley and Reverend Vernon Tyson officiating. The family will greet friends and family at a reception at 12:00 noon at the church. Burial will immediately follow the service at Mount Hope Cemetery.
