Born in: Brunswick County, NC
Resided in: Pinehurst, NC

Generett Potter, age 86, passed peacefully to his final “port of call” on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at the Greens of Pinehurst, NC.

A native of Brunswick County NC he was the eldest of five children born to Willie E. and Vonnie Lee Robinson Potter and was preceded in death by them, by his brothers, Franklin, Berlin, Willie Jr., and a great great grandson Grayson Keith Hewett.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Helen Johnson Potter, his loving fur ball Nekka, daughters, Sandra Cox, Theresa (Buddy) Rhodes, and a brother Thurman (Carroll) Potter.  He was a loving grandfather to 5 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great grandchild.

With much of his childhood spent on the “river”,  Mr. Potter embarked on a career in the United States Coast Guard, where he  attained the rank of E-7, serving  a total of 21 years in various locations around the world.  After his retirement from USCG he joined the U. S. Army Corp of Engineers in Wilmington NC serving with them for a period of eight years.

Farming, fishing, shrimping and traveling were all passionate pastimes for him and he managed to not only do all of the things he loved, but managed to serve members of his community by being a member of Coastline Rescue Squad for years. Together, with his wife,  they jointly built a multi-diverse business venture, Potter’s Produce, The Tan and Tone, and Holden Beach Mini Storage,  leaving a legacy for his family to build on, with the hopes that they would enjoy a life as good as the one he had enjoyed.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: The Alzheimer’s Association @ www.ALZ.org
