Georganne Thompson Austin

Georganne T. Austin of The Coventry at St. Joseph's of the Pines in Southern Pines, passed away Monday, October 30, 2017 after a brief illness. Georganne was born in Paducah, KY to the late George M. Thompson and Elsie M. Thompson and moved to Southern Pines in the early 1940’s.

 

Georganne is predeceased by her husband, H. Stanley Austin and her son, George Andrew (“Andy”) Austin. She is survived by her daughters, Becky Austin Hamilton (Buz), Sally Austin Sump and son, Harold (“Hal”) Stanley Austin, Jr. (Robyn), along with 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Linda T. Posey and brother, Don M. Thompson (Caroline).

 

Georganne was a long time resident of Southern Pines where she enjoyed active participation in the Junior Women’s Club, the annual Antiques Fair, and The Women’s Exchange. As a member of the Church of Wide Fellowship for most of her life, she was a committed to serving in numerous areas of the church. Additionally, Georganne was a charter resident of Belle Meade.

 

Stanley and Georganne enjoyed square dancing and traveling abroad as well as touring the United States in their Airstream RV for over 25 years. She was quite a seamstress, a wonderful cook, enjoyed reading, and especially loved the challenge of a good crossword puzzle A true passion of Georganne’s was composing limericks. She was extraordinarily proud when she was awarded a prize for a limerick she wrote and submitted to The Pilot for their annual limerick contest.

 

A service of remembrance and celebration will be held on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 1 pm in the chapel at Belle Meade followed by a light luncheon reception. Interment will be private. Memorial gifts may be made to a charity of choice or the Southern Pines Public Library.

    ‘The Sovereign Lord will swallow up death forever, and wipe away

    the tears from all faces.’
