Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM on Wednesday at Red Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott McInnis and the Rev. Billy Graham officiating. Burial will follow at Priest Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
George was born in Harnett County to the late George Albert Denning and Katherine Bolton Denning. He attended Carthage High School where he played football and was an outstanding athlete. He served with the Carthage Jaycee's and was a retired volunteer firefighter for the town of Carthage. George was always there to help his friends and neighbors who were in need and was known for his random acts of kindness. He would refer to his generosity as the giving of ice cream money. He loved cars and trucks. He was a loving husband, father and papa. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Joann Kelly and Sue Halfast.
For several years George had a fruit ministry that very few knew about. He would buy and deliver over 50 fruit baskets to those in need each Christmas. He was a lover of animals and would regularly buy corn and feed the ducks and geese at Lake Marion.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Louise Chappell Denning, a daughter, Beth Denning and his granddaughter, Katherine Denning; a brother, Johnny Denning of Carthage; sister-in-law, Jean Chappell, of Sanford and brother-in-law, Mike Kelly; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday at Red Branch Baptist Church. Fry and Prickett Funeral Home is serving the family.
