George W. Utley, age 89 of Pinebluff passed away peacefully Monday, March 11, 2019 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

 

A memorial gathering will be held Saturday at Powell Funeral Home from 3:00 – 5:00 PM.

 

Born in Richmond County to the late William and Prudence (Bethea) Utley, he spent most of his life in Pinebluff. George worked for J.P. Stevens and Proctor Silex. He also worked at Wallace Parts and Salvage in Pinebluff for many years. George loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener. He would help anyone who was in need and was deeply loved by his family and community.

 

He is survived by his wife of 29 years Ann Johnson Harris Utley; daughters Medina James of Pinebluff, Tambra Chamberlin of Aberdeen, Anita Leathers of Pinebluff; sons Melha Harris of MA and William Harris of Alexandria, LA; sister Helen Culver of PA; brother Charles Utley of Los Angeles, CA; niece Julian Nicholson; many other nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives.

 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Tamber’s Place, â„… Community Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1449, Pinehurst, NC 28370 to help the homeless in Moore County.
