Gerard J. Hildebrand (Jerry), passed away on November 22, 2013 at his residence. Jerry was born on August 26, 1926 in Scranton, Pa., the son of the late John G. and Louise Phillips Hildebrand. He was a graduate of St. Ann's Monastery High School, Scranton, Pa. and Penn State University with a degree in Architectural Engineering. He served with the US Navy during World War II on the destroyer, the USS Thomas. Jerry was very much looking forward to being a part of the Southern Pines Veteran's Day parade but illness prohibited his participation.
A resident of Southern Pines for the past 17 years, he previously resided in the Waverly and Lake Winola, Pa. area. Prior to his retirement, he was the owner of the G. J. Hildebrand Construction Company and built many of the industrial buildings in the Scranton, Pa. area. He was a 67 year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, Local 645, Scranton, Pa.
Jerry was predeceased in March, 2013 by his beloved wife of 64 years, Jeanne Walsh Hildebrand. Surviving are four children Lynn Barnhart (George) Pinehurst, Dr. Gerard J. Hildebrand (Susan) Tunkhannock, Pa., Mark G. Hildebrand, Strafford, Pa. and John C. Hildebrand (Mary) Pinehurst. Seven grandchildren, Jennifer Garner, Christopher Barnhart, Ryan Privitera, Sarah Hildebrand, Andrew Hildebrand, Ryan Sprout and Matthew Hildebrand. Seven great grandchildren Caitlin, Andrew and Emma Garner, Porter and Elizabeth Barnhart, Cadence and Camille Privitera. He was predeceased by a sister Madelyn Hildebrand and is survived by two sisters Louise Butler, Vestal, NY and Sally Bold Frick (Edward) Pinehurst.
A celebration of Jerry's life will be held at 1:00 o'clock on November 30, 2013 at Sacred Heart Church, 300 Dundee Road, Pinehurst, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to First Health Hospice, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374 or Sacred Heart Church, 300 Dundee Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374.
