Glenda Penninger Layton, age 80 of Carthage died Sunday at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday at First Baptist Church conducted by Pastor Brian Murphy. The family will receive friends prior to the service in the church fellowship hall beginning at 10:00 am. A private family burial will follow in Cross Hill Cemetery.

Born in Lexington on January 21, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Flonnie Williams Penninger.

Glenda’s first job was with Luther Wallace Grocery. She later she worked as an administrative assistant with Moore County DSS and with Moore County Schools as a substitute and vocational teacher at Union Pines High School.

She was an active member of First Baptist Church where she served on most every committee over the years. She especially loved working with the children during Vacation Bible School. She was active in WMU and was a supporter of the Baptist Children's Home.

Glenda is survived by her husband Ken Layton; children Vanise Goodnight of Lexington, Craig Goodnight and wife Amy of Carthage, Juliet Moran and husband Patrick of Carthage; grandchildren Venson and Amber Nunnaley, Madelyn and Jonah King.
