Gordon Lee 'Gordy' Matthews, age 84 died Saturday at his home.
A memorial service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday at Yates-Thagard Baptist Church. Following the service the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be private at the Yates-Thagard Church Cemetery.
A native of Moore County he was a son of the late Joshua H. and Mable Johnson Matthews. He was a US Army Veteran and a retired farmer.
He is survived by: his wife Julia Faulkner Matthews; daughter Jane Priest and husband Gary of Carthage; sons Ralin Matthews and wife Paulette of Hoffman, Lonnie Matthews and wife Louann of Foxfire, Sherrill Matthews of Carthage; sister Doris Ragsdale of Greensboro; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

When I use to see Gordy at the barbershop at Hillcrest, I always found him to be so interesting and fun to talk to over the issues of our times. Deepest sympathy to the family.
