Gurney D. Baines, passed away February 7th, 2013 at the age of 79 in Macon Georgia. His home was in Pinehurst North Carolina.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis, his daughter Pam Lacivita, of Glendale, Az, son Bryan Baines, of Wake Forest, N.C. , and daughter Kelli Boswell, of Macon, Ga. He is also survived by his sister Virginia Johnson, of Kernersville, N.C., seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter, Michael Lacivita, Blake Baines, Jonathan Lacivita, Judson Baines, Liam Boswell, Taylor Boswell, Dean Boswell, and Arabella Lacivita, as well as many friends.
Gurney graduated from Elon College , NC and served in the US Coast Guard for 2 years. He was a math teacher, an inventor with two patents to his credit and a jack of all trades.
A memorial service in Gurney's hometown of Pinehurst will be 2:00 PM Saturday, March 9 at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home, 402 Saunders St., Carthage, NC. Committal with military honors will be at the Harris Family Cemetery, Harris' Crossroads. For further details, please contact Fry and Prickett Funeral home @ 910.947.2224.
