Herbert Eugene Rafalski passed away at his home Wednesday ( March 26, 2008) in Carthage after many years of failing health.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P. M. Monday (March 31, 2008) at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Terry Huffines and the Rev. David Hicks.
He was born in Pittsfield, Pa. on November 3, 1931, son of Joseph and Rose Bojack Rafalski. A Veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army for three and one-half years. He was employed at the National Forge Co. in Irvine, Pa. for 32 years and retired in 1985 after being head of the shipping department. He served as a volunteer fireman for many years. He was a member of the VFW Post 2006 in Meadville, Pa. and the American Legion Post 0381 in Cambridge Springs, Pa. He was a member of the Carthage United Methodist Church since moving to Carthage, NC. in 1998. He was also an avid sportsman, bowler and football enthusiast. One of his biggest joys in life was being with his grandchildren. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who will be terribly missed but not forgotten.
Survivors in addition to his wife Kathryn, of 41 years, include his daughter Brenda Roberts and son-in-law Gene Roberts and their children Katie and Cody of Whispering Pines NC, daughter Tamela J. Nelson of Lakewood, NY, son Ronald Rafalski daughter-in-law Kim Rafalski and their son BJ of Tidioute, Pa, daughter Diane Hajec of Pittsfield Pa., brother Joseph Rafalski of Pittsfield, Pa. as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Pete and Walter Rafalski. A brother Steve Rafalski of Grand Valley, Pa. also died March 26, 2008.
The family will receive friends after the Memorial Service at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home.
