Isaac (Ike) Benton, of Pinehurst, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at the age of 82 at Penick Village. He was born and raised in Jackson, TN, the son of the late Oliver and Lucy Wilkerson Benton. He was preceded in death by his brother, George Oliver Benton and sister, Harriet Holland.
He graduated from the Baylor School in Chattanooga, and attended the University of Virginia and Vanderbilt University. He served in the navy at the end of WWII. He and his family lived in Jackson and San Juan, Puerto Rico before moving to Pinehurst. For most of his life he was a building contractor.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carla Maddox Benton, his brother, Oliver Benton, of Signal Mountain, TN, one son, Isaac Benton, Jr. of Albuquerque, NM, three daughters: Elizabeth Taylor of Louisville, KY, Patti Weyand and Anne Byerly of Atlanta, GA; six grandchildren: Grace Fleury, Rachel McHenry, Sally Radney, Jane Dunn, and Emory and Lucy Weyand; five great grandchildren: Jack and Madeline McHenry, Elizabeth and Amelia Fleury and Evelyn Radney; and his beloved dog, Sugar Muff.
He was an avid bridge player and enjoyed singing, music, golf, flying and his family. He was a member of the AARP and the Sandhills Video Club¡K...We will miss his sense of humor and kind heart.
A celebration of his life will be held in Jackson, TN at a later date.
