James "Jimmy" D. Cook, age 69 of Carthage died Tuesday (January 12, 2009) at his residence after fighting a long battle of cancer.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday at Emmanuel Baptist Church conducted by Pastors Eugene Ussery, John Chavis and David Reynolds. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 6:00 —8:00 PM and other times at the residence.
A native of Surry County he was a son of the late Howard and Mallie Taylor Cook. He was retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation where he worked as a truck driver. A brother Allan Cook preceded him in death.
He is survived by: his wife Marie Reynolds Cook; son Mike Cook and wife Kelly; grandson Cliff Cook; brothers Thomas Cook of Carthage; Curtis Cook and wife Susan of Carthage; sisters Irene Collier and husband Bobby of Red Springs, Alma Cline of Sanford and friend Bud Tillotson, Ann Frye of Carthage, Judy Collins and husband Wade of Carthage; 21 nieces and nephews and his beloved canine companion Pepper.
