James  Donald Taylor, age 64, of Carthage, died Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at his home.  Friends and family affectionately knew him as “Jamie” or “JT”.

A native of Moore County, he was a son of the late Henry Donald Taylor and Linda Fields Taylor.

James enjoyed art, poetry and loved writing. He left many books of his writings for his family to cherish.

James’ greatest accomplishment was graduating from UNC Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts. He loved his Tar Heels and was often seen wearing a Tar Heels hat or t-shirt.

James did a variety of jobs, his most recent being night auditor for Motel 6 in Aberdeen until his retirement.

His smile, contagious laugh, and random tidbits of philosophy will be greatly missed by the ones who loved him.

He is survived by his brother Mark Taylor (Dena) of McColl, South Carolina, and his niece Makenna Taylor, along with aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Priest Hill Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Archie Stevens officiating. James will be buried alongside his mother in the church cemetery. 

Services are entrusted to Fry & Prickett Funeral Home.

I remember Jamie and his love of poetry and I’m glad to hear that he was able to graduate from UNC Chapel Hill, which was my one dream as well but I ended up at another school nice to hear that for him. Will be thinking about the family, especially Mark.
