Mr. James Harold Hussey peacefully passed away on Friday, December 20, 2024.
Born Friday, February 13, 1931 to William Crawford and Alma Davis Hussey, he was one of ten children. Growing up in Bennett, NC, Harold loved life on the farm.
He was a graduate of Bennett High School. He was drafted into the US Army during the Korean Conflict, where he proudly served his country. Upon returning from active duty, he graduated from Durham Barber School and began his career as a barber, owning City Barber Shop in Robbins, NC. His shop was a gathering place for locals when they needed a trim, shave, shoe shine, or conversation. He left barbering to become the Personnel Director of Ithaca Hosiery at its inception. He was very proud of his role in hiring over 650 employees for the new business and helping the community prosper. Upon retirement from Ithaca, along with his wife, Peggy, he focused his energy on their real estate company, Central Realty.
Harold was a devout member of Tabernacle United Methodist in Robbins, serving in numerous leadership roles for many years. He loved Robbins and the surrounding communities. He was an active member of the Robbins Jaycees, serving as President, a member of the Elise Masonic Lodge, earning the highest rank, and a longtime member of the Woodman of the World.
“Pa” loved his family! He is survived by his daughter, Lynne Hussey Stroud, and husband Dr. Stephen Walter Stroud of New Bern; son, James Bart Hussey and wife, Rachel Wainright Hussey of Oak Island; and daughter-in-law, Dr. Elizabeth Kernodle Hussey of Durham; six grandchildren; Stephen Stroud, Dr. Morgan Stroud, William Hussey, Sarah Bonds, Cason Elliott, and Dr. Carter Hussey; three great-grandsons, Ryan, Deaton, and Hugo; sisters, Joan Chilton, Linda Camp and husband Dr. Joe Camp, and brother, Dwight Hussey and wife, Cathy Jo Hussey.
In addition to his parents, Harold is preceded in death by the love of his life for sixty-six years, Peggy Lassiter Hussey; son, Harold Bradley Hussey, and several sisters and brothers.

Harold and Peggy were family friends long before I was born.I will cherish their friendship forever.I wish now I had recorded Harold talking about his growing up years which included my father. They grew up together, double dated, married girls who grew up together and were good friends. My mama and Peggy actually lived together while Harold and daddy were away in service.I loved hearing Harold talk about the old days.He was one of my last links to my parents.Thank you Harold for being a friend, I’m gonna miss you.I know you are in a better place with Jesus and your loved ones. This is not good bye but see you one day.
On behalf of the Legion of Mary of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport NC, we are going to miss Mr. Hussey. We enjoyed saying the Lord’s Prayer with him when we would see him in the lobby area of Landings. He was such a gracious man. Our prayers are with the entire Hussey family.
