James Earl “Jim” Morris, age 57, of Robbins died at his home, Thursday, May 26, 2022.

A native of Forsyth County, Jim was the son of James Sr. and Jenny White Morris. He was a 1983 graduate of East Forsyth High School and  a 1988 graduate of Appalachian State University. He was a proud “Mountaineer.”

Jim was a dedicated teacher for 29 years, teaching at Tyro Middle, East Montgomery Middle, Westmoore Elementary, Highfalls Elementary, Elise Middle, North Moore High and West Pine Middle.   Coaching was a joy for Jim. He coached many recreation, middle school and high school sports.  As a coach, teacher, mentor, youth leader and friend, he impacted countless lives, both young and old. Jim was a faithful servant of the Lord at Smyrna United Methodist Church, as a Sunday school teacher, grounds committee, trustee, administrative council, “Santa” and beloved youth leader.   God blessed Jim with the talent of woodworking and he was a man who used that talent to glorify God.   Homes all across North Carolina have cabinets designed and built by Jim’s hands. Jim was BBQ Pit Master and he shared that gift with others.  Many people looked forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas meals that included Jim’s pork and/or turkey. Jim will be remembered for his faith, a strong work ethic, his friendly face, warm smile and  “BIG” personality.

Jim is survived by wife of 33 years  Kim Hussey Morris; sons: Lt. Levi James Morris and wife Maggie, Mason William Morris and wife Emily; grandson: Grayson; parents James Sr. and Jenny Morris; brother: Jonathan Morris (Luis); sister: Jennifer Sell (Scott); nephews: Cole and Jake Sell and many friends.

Memorial service will be 2:00 PM Sunday, May 29, 2022 at Smyrna United Methodist Church, with Dr. Jerome Smith and Reverend Farrell Hussey officiating.   The family will receive friends following the service in the Smyrna Family Life Center and at other times at the home.

  41. My heart is absolutely broken. Jim Morris was one of the kindest, most generous, smartest, most talented person I’ve ever met. Heaven just gained an absolute superstar, and maybe that’s why he was called home so early. I can only hope to be half the husband, father, and person that you were. Thank you for your friendship and for being an unassuming role model to which I will always reflect upon to guide my own life. I would do anything to have one more beer with you. One day I hope I will. I will miss you my dear friend.

  52. “As long as we live, they too will live, for they now are a part of us, as we remember them.” Jim will never be forgotten because he lives in so many hearts of all those students, friends and family members he has touched through his lifetime. I consider it an honor that Kim and Jim entrusted Mason and Levi to me for so many adventures with FBLA. The candy he sold, the donated drinks for fundraising and his enthusiasm for the boys to travel will never leave my memories. Jim will be missed here on earth but I know he is celebrating in heaven. 59. I remember the last time I spoke with Jim he was always so nice to me. He had a soft voice and people listened when he spoke. He will be missed dearly. God bless his family. Go rest high on that mountain my friend. Your work here is done.

  60. I’m so sorry for your loss, Mr. Morris (Jim) was an amazing, awesome teacher an mentor, I remember taking his class in middle school & all his classes in North Moore. I always looked forward to his class they we’re my favorite, he always made all activities exciting an always had a smile to brighten up our day. He will be missed. My thoughts an prayers to the family.

  61. Jim had such a positive impact on everyone that he encountered. I was blessed to have the opportunity to work side by side with him and Kim to introduce middle & high school students to careers in engineering and construction. His positive impact on our society will endure for many years to come. I pray that the God of grace and peace provide the family with comfort in the weeks and months to come.

  62. Jim Morris is truly one of the funniest and kindest people I have ever met. I was so fortunate to work with him at Elise Middle School. His students and coworkers adored him. I will never forget the time I found myself stranded during a lockdown drill in his classroom. Procedure required Mr. Morris, three of his students, and myself to quickly hide in a closet at the back of his very large classroom. Ten minutes later, we did not hear when the principal announced on the intercom that the lockdown was over. The five of us spent an additional thirty-five minutes (which seemed like two hours) in the closet. Mr. Morris and I were frantically whispering about whether or not the lockdown was real, and which one of us should be the one to go out and “check out” the situation. Eventually, we ever so gently opened the door, just enough to peer out into the empty classroom. Finally, he and I tiptoed far enough out until we could barely hear the Art teacher’s friendly voice next next door. She was just teaching away to her students! Jim picked up the phone and called her, only to be informed that the drill had ended thirty-five minutes earlier. 😆 To everyone who loved Jim, Psalm 56:8 says that God will collect every one of our tears. Each one is precious to Him because we are precious to Him. We know where Jim is right now, and he is happy! We will see him again!!! Kim, Levi, Mason, and family, I am praying for all of you!

  63. Mrs. Morris, I am deeply sorry about your lost. To your family and to you, I send my deepest condolences, I am too far to make it in such a short notice, but know that I send you all the love. I could write a brook on the impact Mr. Morris had in my life, yet it wouldn’t make it enough to compensate. It is thanks to his kindness and support that I pushed myself many times. Send you all the love, hugs and prayers all the way from Texas – yours truly and forever former student – Carmen Moreno

  64. Mr. Morris,
The world is a much dimmer place without you in it. You brought the sunshine with you everywhere you went. My condolences to your family and thank you for making my life better! Love you always!

  65. Jim was one of a kind! He touched the lives of all who knew him. I am so thankful that I was one of those people!! Jim was my buddy at West Pine Middle School. I loved working across the hall from him because I would get to hear what was going on in his room and he would always make me laugh. In fact, I always wished that I could be a student in his class for a day so that I could experience it first hand. It is no wonder that so many students consider Jim to be one of their favorite teachers. I was so happy for him when he retired, but I really hated to see him go because I knew that I would miss him and that there would be a void. I always looked forward to catching up with him at Thanksgiving and Christmas when I would go to the school to pick up the amazingly yummy meat we ordered every year. This year I found out that he had become a grandpa!! What a proud and happy grandpa he was!! I enjoyed seeing all the pictures he shared with me, especially the one of him and Kim dressed up as Mr. and Mrs. Claus with their grandson! I had never thought about it before, but Jim made the perfect Santa!! When I mentioned this to him, he invited me to skip the mall next year and get our annual family picture with Santa with him and Kim instead, which I was strongly considering. I will miss my friend. I will never forget what a special person he was and I know that he will continue to make me smile and laugh when I think about him for years to come. He made the world a brighter place! I pray for all those that loved Jim the most. May the Lord wrap his arms around you and may the wonderful memories of love and laughter bring peace to your heart and a smile to your face.

  66. We are sending our prayers and our deepest condolence to the Morris family. Jim was a wonderful Christian man, he always had that awesome smile.
