James Richard Evers Jr. 62, passed away in his home on March 8, 2025. 

Richard was a graduate of North Moore High School and Elon University. He had a very successful career in Social Work;  a job about giving to the community and helping others. Richard always protected the people who needed it the most. That is a true testament to who he was. Richard treasured the more enjoyable aspects of life. He loved the beach, fishing, grilling, rock and roll, friends, comedy, and his family. Richard was always there to help out no matter what time of day. He implemented strong values into his children about respect, kindness, and independence. He was a loving friend and father. Richard will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by father: James Richard Evers, Sr.

James Richard Evers is survived by his daughter Kaitlyn Evers, son Nathaniel Evers, mother Shirley Sessoms Evers, sister Melissa Evers Oakley, nephews: Robert Oakley, Stephen Oakley, niece Emma Oakley, Girlfriend Chrissy Taylor, and many friends.

Memorial service will be 4 PM, Friday, March 14, 2025 at Kennedy Funeral Home with Reverend Geroge Townsend officiating.

  1. Richard and I was class of 81 I had the pleasure of seeing him at our last class reunion. Good man want be forgotten.

  2. Richard loved his family and it was the first thing you realized when you were with him. What a tribute to how he was raised, and he passed it along. It’s an enviable legacy.   3. I worked with Richard at Lee County DSS. We had a lot of laughs together. Richard had a kind and helpful heart for his clients. Richard would always talk about his children and was very proud of them. He will be missed.

    • I wish condolences to the family on your loss. Richard and I were friends, classmates and teammates at North Moore HS. He was always a stand-up guy. He was a good athlete and an even better person.

  5. I considered Richard a good friend throughout high school. We lost touch after school but began communicating again in 2019. He absolutely adored Kaitlyn and Nate, and brimmed with pride when he spoke of them, which he often did. Richard frequently sent me videos or snippets of their many accomplishments. He shall be missed in the hearts of many.

    • So very sorry for your loss. Richard and Melissa were in the youth group at our church while Johnny and I were the directors. So many fun and happy times on retreats and Sunday night meetings. Anyone who knew him loved his wit, humor and personality. May he rest in peace.

  9. I met Richard years ago when he was at Montgomery County DSS and I was at Lee Co. DSS. Then I left DSS and went to work at the hospital and he transferred to Lee Co. DSS. I hate we didn’t get to work in the same building a the same time! He was a wonderful man and a wonderful Social Worker. Prayers for his family.
